Open the site and you're in. No download, no store listing, no permissions requested up front. If you want it to feel like an app, add it to your home screen — it opens full-screen with its own icon and behaves like one.
Uninstalling is closing a tab, or removing the icon. Nothing lingers on your phone.
Light on data
Text chat costs almost nothing in data terms. Voice is a standard audio call, comparable to any voice-over-internet call and a fraction of what video would use — which is moot here, since there's no video on the site at all.
That makes it usable on a limited data plan, a weak signal, or an older phone that struggles with heavier apps.

The room list, chat view and message composer are all built for one-handed use on a phone screen rather than being a desktop layout squeezed down. Rooms sit in a scrollable sidebar you can collapse when you want the screen back.
Push notifications are available if you turn them on — for direct messages, friend activity and incoming calls — and off entirely if you don't. Rooms you've joined show unread badges in the sidebar instead.
There are twelve interface themes, several of them dark enough to use in bed without lighting up the room, and the choice is remembered on your device. It's a small thing, but a chat app is something you mostly use at night on a phone.
